West Seattle Sun Porch Addition

The homeowners of this modern West Seattle home are grandparents who wanted to restore an old sunroom off their kitchen to create a comfortable and inviting place for their extended family to enjoy all year round. A LaCantina folding door system was added between the kitchen and sunroom, and between the sunroom and a deck, to connect the inside of the house to the outdoors and take advantage of expansive views. Stamped-in-place waterproof decking was used inside and out to continue the indoor-outdoor connection. A deck with an aluminum railing system and glass panels provided an attractive and functional wind block as well as maximizing views and light. Several operable windows were added to this southwest-facing room to retain heat in the winter and to take advantage of cooling breezes in the summer.
