Green Building and Remodeling in Seattle, Washington - Pathway Design & Construction

Erosion/Pollution

Before we ever begin a project that will require earthwork and/or excavation we instill a soil erosion, waterway sedimentation and airborne dust generation control plan. Erosion and pollution control go a long way in reducing our footprint.

Deconstruction

If there is an existing structure that is to be removed we will deconstruct the building salvaging all possible material to be used on the future project or deliver it to local reuse stores in the Seattle area. All material that cannot be salvaged is recycled when possible. There is limited open space in this world and we want to do our part to prevent good material from going to the landfill.

Green Building

During the design and construction of the custom home it is our priority to create a sustainable, environmentally friendly and healthy home. There are a number of features that can be implemented to achieve this goal. For instance:

  • Gray water recycling system
  • Low energy windows and doors
  • Proper insulation
  • Energy efficient heating system (i.e. radiant heating or heat pump)
  • Vegetated roof system – these systems have been used in Europe for hundreds of years and proven successful
  • Passive and active solar systems
  • Low VOC paints, stains, sealers and glues
  • Use salvaged building materials and fixtures

Indoor Air Quality/Pollution

During the course of construction it is a priority for us to keep a clean jobsite. This helps to improve the overall healthiness of the completed home by limiting dust and debris under finished floors and in finished walls. It also helps to prevent dust and debris from infiltrating the mechanical equipment creating better indoor air quality and sustaining the equipments lifespan. Pollution of the surrounding neighborhood can also be prevented by eliminating and properly disposing of construction debris.
